Inordinate pressure on the lower vertebrae area is the initial trigger in developing lower back pain which can cause a disturbance in the supply of water and nutrients to the intervertebral discs.
As a result of their malnutrition, wear and tear of the intervertebral discs occurs that changes their shape. Such deformation irritates the surrounding tissue.
In order to restore the discs the surrounding tissue reacts by increasing of the number of capillaries and thus the tissue around them swells.
